BAC 07 > VII International Festival of Contemporary Art in Barcelona

THIS IS TOMORROW

MAA 2007 - 2008 First Term Final Review_Design Studio > How to design a tree?

Nature, understood in its wide sense, is the territory where every architectural process is developed. It is fundamental to recognize nature’s basic principles, functional logics and to interact with it in a precise way. Develop methodologies that allow us measure and evaluate geographic, social or economic realities, knowing the historic methodologies that had been part of architecture, is another basic step. Different natural elements as: trees, mountains, rivers, waves or clouds, can be analyzed geometrically thanks to fractal geometry development and the digital modelling techniques.

Mapping Barcelona_Old Town Exhibition

Mapping Barcelona_ The first proposed exercise is the study of the historical centre of Barcelona. This urban complex is undergoing deep transforma-tions due to its appropriation by tourism, especially fast consume tourism. In this way, places that were traditionally central spaces for the identity of the city are changing to adapt to the economies that have araised from mass tourism and with the possibility to mode in the low-cost world. Barcelona can witness the densification of pedestrians in the public space, the increase of noise on streets, the eroding process in public space. All of that following re-latively loose rules. Mapping Barcelona_Old Town aims to map this trans-formations by finding the most revealing data of the process.+
