The GSS 2013 concluded today with the Final Presentation of the 6 projects developed throughout the 2 weeks of work. The Global School programme seeks to investigate common agendas in global localities. The 2013 edition included the participation from institutes in Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, and North America, in particular: Mumbai, Tehran, Istanbul, Barcelona, New York and Lima.
The projects developed aimed to generate a new strategy to understand and facilitate the Production of the City in various aspects: Production of Knowledge, Prodution of Food, Production of Objects, and the Production of Energy, key elements which establish the basic necessities to create self-sufficient habitats, and allowing the Summer School to serve as the testing ground for the generation of project ideas.… [Read More]
The design process comes to a stage that 6 groups meet and have a discuss that all can comment, bringing more clear idea for concept, prototyping, fabrication, and final output.
We are developing new strategy to understand and facilitate the production of the city in various aspects. Concepts include sharing energy, sharing working experience, adaptable structures that combines data and visual illusions, sunshine sterilization installation, etc.
Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.
Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based onWiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).

Throughout hte GSS we are utilizing associative tools to relate our projects to various dynamics internal and external to the project site. this first tutorial introduces the Grasshopper environment in order to orient all of the participants on its functionality. This platform is crucial for the development of diagrams, drawings, animations, and fabrication documents.
A Start of work for the GSS BCN. The day initializes with a presentation from GSS Team. Benedetta Tagliabue presents the project with a discussion on Barcelona’s public spaces. The work going to be produced is part of a broader project in collaboration with the Fundacion Enric Miralles, the Barcelona City Council(Ajuntament de Barcelona) and Barcelona Cultua. This Project commemorates the tricentennial anniversary of Catalunya’s incorporation into Spain and in the Spring of 2014, six pavilions will be constructed in six public spaces in Barcelona which have been emblematic in the history of the last 300 years.
Iaac has been selected as one of the collaborators in the project, and thus, this year’s 2013 Global Summer School Program focuses on the performative prototypes for activating the productivity of these public spaces, which are four themes of food production, energy production, knowledge production and object production.… [Read More]
GSS BCN is launched at the beautiful IaaC’s Valldaura Campus in Collserola Park, which is an investigation center focused on the production of food, energy, knowledge, and objects. We meet each other, discuss the coming days, and understand the topic of “productive City”.
