Project's IaaC - Valldaura Self Sufficient lab

Valldaura Self Sufficient lab

Valldaura Self Sufficient Labs is a research center for self sufficient habitats, led by the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IaaC) located on an historic 130 hectare farm in the Collserola Natural Park, in Barcelona metropolitan area.

Valldaura is a place that in 1150 hosted the first Cister Monastery of Catalonia. Later, it became a royal hunting palace of Jaume II and finally it ended up being a farm. The project promotes a process of nature conservation and rehabilitation of architectural and landscape heritage, including forestry, agriculture, livestock, heritage and environmental and functional aspects.

Valldaura philosophy establishes the relationship of man, environment and planet defined as self sufficient and network man. It promotes education and research programs for people of all ages, in a multidisciplinary environment that seeks to become an international benchmark about self sufficiency. Within the Valldaura environment, research and action will be undertaken on the three basics needs that humans require to be self sufficient:
food, energy and things. And the basis of the research laboratories created in Valldaura: Food Lab, Lab Energy and Green Fab Lab.

Valldaura Self Sufficient Labs is an international research center in a privileged natural environment that brings together international students, teachers and researchers from different disciplines in order to advance the development of self sufficiency, recover ancient knowledge, manage local resources and implement new technology to solve problems of our time, to promote the exchange of this knowledge worldwide through information networks; generate economy and progress and lead research for re-naturalisation of cities on XXI century.
